Chico, California is located just north of Sacramento and was founded by General and Annie Bidwell in 1860. Chico is widely known for it’s beautiful 1,902 acre park which was bestowed upon the city by Annie Bidwell herself. Bidwell Park is one of the largest municipal parks in the nation. The city is filled with trees of all kinds and has several creeks throughout making summer time a bit cooler for it’s citizens as temperatures reach as high as 110 degrees.
Touring Annie’s mansion is a favorite for tourists and locals alike. The tour guide will educate you on the rich history of the community and is great for school field trips.

Bidwell Park’s ‘One Mile‘, at it’s lowest end, is a popular swimming spot for both locals and visitors. Although winter brings some rather frigid temperatures from mountain snow, many residents remain faithful to participating in the New Year’s Day Polar Bear plunge to celebrate the new year.

My husband treated me to lunch one day at a restaurant that has become a favorite among the locals of Chico, Ca. Tres Hombres opened a restaurant in Chico in 1988, but had opened their first in Lake Tahoe in 1974. Tres Hombres is a popular restaurant, frequented by locals and college students alike. They recently went through a renovation and are now open for lunch and dinner.
The ambiance draws you back into a cultural experience of a Mexican fiesta dining experience with their music, decor, and aroma of authentic Mexican food. In all the years I have been in Chico, I am surprised at myself for not dining there until recently.
There are many cultural eateries and shops in Chico, Ca. It’s well worth the time to drive to this Northern California town and enjoy the walk through their downtown streets and their famous Bidwell Park.
